Reader’s Question:

What are the instances that could lead me to SR22 filing in South Carolina? How do I get cheap SR22 insurance rates?

Scott

Allendale, SC

If you commit traffic violations such as reckless driving, driving under the influence (DUI), driving without insurance and at fault accidents, South Carolina will mandate you to file for an SR22. An SR22 is a proof that you have enough liability insurance coverage at a time when you caused injury to person or damage to a property.

It is not easy for any motorist to file for an SR22 insurance. SR22 insurance rates vary among auto insurance companies. Any motorist who is convicted of a traffic infraction such as DUI is considered by most insurance companies as high risk. To cover up the risk that is going to cause the insurance companies, they generally charged these high risk drivers with an increased premium compared to other regular policies. However there are still some possible ways for you to obtain cheap SR22 insurance rates.

Go quote shopping online. Get as many quotes as you possibly can before signing for a single policy. Vehicle insurance companies will be glad to provide you with quotes. You will be surprised to find out that after requesting several SR22 quotes you get to notice that one quote is twice as much as the other quote.

You can easily get quotes by surfing the Internet. Spend some few minutes to fill out few online forms with your personal information. Submit it online and get hundreds of SR22 quotes instantly that would likely help you save a few hundred dollars on your monthly premiums.

Remember not to forget to spend enough time reviewing each quote particularly on its terms and conditions as well as its coverage scheme. Make sure that the scheme is reasonable for your needs and that the coverage comes with good service. It’s an important consideration to make when deciding on any particular company.

One of the best ways to lower your annual premiums is to have a higher deductible amount.. Like a $1,000, is what I carry personally.

Now, if you are a claim free and safe driver like I am, you could be saving a ton of money each year on your premiums. People fail to realize that the deductible amount is only paid when they file a claim and their insurance company pays that claim.

Ask for discounts, you never know what you might be able to get and how much you can save by asking. Some popular discounts can be given for:

1. Military personnel

2. Good grade students

3. Union membership and bank member affiliations

4. Safe drivers with no claims in last 7 years

5. Defensive driving school attendance

6. Clean credit history – used by many carriers to determine payment risk

Ticket For Driving With Suspended Drivers License

Reader’s Question:

I just moved in to a new address and did not receive any notice of license suspension. I was ticketed yesterday for driving while suspended. What does Kansas law require for this type of conviction? Are there any low cost SR22 insurance rates that I can avail here in Kansas?

Mark

Topeka, KS

Firstly, it means that you have a suspended license which you may or may not be aware of. Kansas requires anyone moving to notify the Driver Control Bureau within 10 days of any change of address. The bureau is only responsible of mailing the suspension notice to the last address filed with the department and not with tracking down if the address is still valid.

For a driving while suspended conviction, Kansas law requires 90 day license suspension in addition to the suspension term prior to this conviction. Remember that initially, you are already entitled to a license suspension prior to this conviction. So after you have cleared up the primary reason of your suspension notice, you should expect to have 90 days more of suspension for driving while suspended conviction.

This conviction will also require you to file for a proof of liability coverage in the form of SR22 insurance. In Kansas, you need to maintain your SR22 for a period of twelve consecutive months. The Kansas Driver Control Bureau will also require you to pay a reinstatement fee of $100 or $300 depending upon your driving record.

Under the Kansas Habitual Driving Statute, three similar convictions within a five year period will revoke your license for three years. So the next time you will be moving to another location in Kansas, do not fail to notify the Driver Control Bureau of Kansas so as not to get the same offense.

Although filing for SR22 insurance is most likely to be expensive due to the high risk involve, there is no reason for you at all not to give up trying to find low cost SR22 insurance rates in Kansas. The insurance industry has highly competitive environment and rates can vary greatly from one insurer to another. We suggest of getting multiple quotes online and choose a company that offers the lowest insurance rates. You not only get to save hundreds but you also get to instantly get your SR22 filed in just a matter of minutes.

Where to Get SR22 Insurance After DUI Charge

Reader’s Question:

My boyfriend needs SR22 insurance after being charged for DUI. How does he get one?

Thanks.

Your boyfriend should look for a licensed insurance broker or agent who can help him find good SR22 insurance rates. He should shop around through the Internet or by using the telephone to find a reputable insurance agent or broker. A good insurance broker or agent can help him with the necessary documents and processing while giving him tips on how to find affordable SR22 insurance rates.

After finding a good insurer providing affordable SR22 insurance rates, your boyfriend should fill out the necessary forms. The insurance agent will then send the SR22 insurance application form to the state’s department of motor vehicles on your boyfriend’s behalf.

Your boyfriend also needs to file the appropriate paperwork so that his license will be reinstated. He can file for restricted license which is given to drivers who only travel to school or work. This type of license can be easily approved. However, he should keep in mind that he is restricted to travel certain distances and if he is found to be violating the restrictions, then he might be risking further penalties.

Your boyfriend should keep his coverage current. He should pay the premiums on time or his insurer may terminate the SR22 insurance and thus risk him to additional sentencing.
